China Criticizes US $1 Trillion Defense Budget

China has strongly criticized the United States for planning to increase its defense budget to $1 trillion for the fiscal year 2026. The Chinese Ministry of Defence called this move a “wanton use of force” that will not make America great again. Instead they believe it will bring harm to both the US and the global community.

According to Zhang Xiaogang

A spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Defence the massive US defense budget reveals America’s aggressive nature and its belief in “might makes right.” He pointed out that the US government is already in heavy debt but continues to pour what he called “ill gotten wealth” into making weapons. Zhang suggested that this money is gained unfairly from other countries fueling America’s war focused policies.

China

The second largest defense spender globally increased its own defense budget by 7.2% this year reaching $249 billion (1.78 trillion yuan). This is $17 billion more than last years budget of $232 billion (1.67 trillion yuan). Despite this increase China’s defense spending is still much lower than the US’s proposed $1 trillion. Critics question China’s budget pointing to its rapid military modernization including new aircraft carriers advanced naval ships and modern stealth aircraft.

The Chinese media echoed Zhang’s views

Stating that the US’s sky high budget exposes its warlike attitude. They argue that such spending will lead to “painful disasters” for people worldwide. China’s remarks come at a time when global tensions are high and defense budgets are under scrutiny. The US has justified its budget increase by citing national security needs and the need to counter global threats but China sees it as an unnecessary escalation.

This disagreement highlights the growing rivalry between the two superpowers. The US and China have clashed over issues like trade, technology and military presence in regions like the South China Sea. Chinas criticism of the US budget is part of a broader narrative where Beijing portrays itself as a peaceful power compared to what it calls Americas aggressive stance.

The US defends its spending as essential for global stability

China argues it fuels conflict and instability. The debate over defense budgets reflects deeper differences in how these nations view power and security. As both countries continue to invest heavily in their militaries the world watches closely hoping for peace despite the rising tensions.

Conclusion

China’s sharp reaction to the US’s $1 trillion defense budget underscores the ongoing global power struggle. By calling out America’s spending as reckless and harmful China aims to position itself as a voice of reason. However with its own growing military budget and modernization efforts China’s criticisms may face skepticism. The clash of words and budgets between these two nations is a reminder of the delicate balance needed to maintain global peace.
